"Average coffee is no longer acceptable"

One day while on a long drive I needed to stop for coffee (shocker!). I was in an area where I did not know so I googled coffee shops near me. I saw one named Twin Valley Coffee that looked really cute so I headed there. I was beyond surprised to realize that this coffee shop was in a little white painted gazebo with lights. When I walked in the door I was in awe of the beautiful coffee shop before me. I felt as if I entered a different world when I stepped through that door. After chatting with the sweetest baristas and ordering the most delicious cold brew I knew I needed to come back. So I did!

I recently had the pleasure of sitting down and talking with one of the owners Lynne. Her and her husband, also named Lynn, are the geniuses behind Twin Valley Coffee and are what make it so special. The origin of their story began when some missionary friends of theirs came to visit and they brought fresh roasted coffee beans. They had nothing to grind it with so they used a food blender. When Lynn tasted the coffee, he said it ruined him for good coffee. He was totally enticed and said this is what he wanted to do. Lynn is an entrepreneur and he began to roast beans with a popcorn popper. He started selling the coffee in 2003. In 2004 he began to sell at a local orchard.

Lynn and Lynne, early in their marriage talked about wanting to own a business, never once did they think it would be coffee. Through this journey all of their hopes are being fulfilled with this coffee business. "It amazes me how God put theses things and thoughts in our heart and we are just watching it play out".

The gazebo came in 2010, during the recession. It was a result of a farmers market. A flyer went out from the farmers market that said "if you see the Burkholders tell them to be part of our farmers market". The community wanted their coffee to be a part of the market. They joined, and from there the seed was planted. Lynne was the farmers market person, the salesperson in her sparked alive. Lynn was the supplier. Together they were ultimate team.

Summer of 2010 they were just vendors. Many people loved their coffee as beans, but they didn't know where to go to get a cup of their coffee. So they decided to set up a table with lights outside their house where people could come and get a cup. The farmers market gave them a place where they had the advantage of great customer input and advice. One woman told them they should sell a cold drink. So Lynn created the Toddy. A delicious caramel lined cold brew. It took off like crazy. "The cold brew is what has put us ahead," Lynne explained.

Twin Valley Coffee has such a wide range of customers, from little ones to grandparents who were brought in by their teenage grand kids. It's amazing to see their coffee bring together the generations. Twin Valley even offers a toddler Toddy!

Not only does TVC have amazing, and I do mean amazing coffee (I am currently drinking the brew from their Scottish Grogg blend as I write this), but they are a beacon of their community. Lynne expressed to me that this journey has been so amazing being able to develop relationships with those who come in the doors of the gazebo. A lot of people worked together to build the gazebo. Lynne has made it her responsibility to remind her family that they are here on the backs of many people in the community. That they are here because God wants to expand His kingdom in new ways.

God made it very clear to them that this gazebo would be a lighthouse, a reflection of what God can do. Through that it has become a beacon in the community. Lynn & Lynne have been able to create ministry through their coffee.

Wow, Twin Valley Coffee sounds like an absolute hidden gem! The cute gazebo setting and friendly baristas make it sound like such a welcoming place. I bet that cold brew was incredible. If you’re ever back, I highly recommend trying their dark roast blend—it’s bold and rich, perfect for coffee lovers who appreciate a strong cup. Can’t wait to check it out myself!
